This policy explains what MunchMap ("we," "our," or "the app"), operated by Glumpo Group, collects when you use the MunchMap iPhone app and munchmapapp.org, and what we do with it.
With your permission, the app uses your device's location while you're using it to find restaurants near you. Each search sends your location to our server so it can return nearby places. We keep a log of searches to understand demand and keep the service running. In that log, the location is rounded to roughly 100 meters, and it is stored with your anonymous ID (below), never with your name or contact details. We don't track your location in the background.
The first time you open the app, it creates a random ID and stores it on your device. We use it to limit abuse (for example, rate-limiting requests and making sure one phone can't flood restaurant reports) and to count usage. It is not your Apple ID, advertising ID, or anything that identifies you. Deleting the app deletes the ID.
If you tap "Wrong hours or closed?" on a restaurant, we store the report (which place, what you reported, and when) with your anonymous ID. Reports from different devices are compared to fix restaurant info.
We use Google Firebase Analytics to see how the app is used, for example spins, saves, directions opened, and which screens are viewed. These events can include the restaurant shown, its cuisine, and how far away it was, but never your precise location. Firebase also collects standard device and app information, such as device model, iOS version, app version, and approximate region. We don't use Firebase for advertising, and we don't access your device's advertising identifier.
Your saved list is stored only on your device. We don't receive it.
If you claim a listing on our owner dashboard, we collect your email address to sign you in with a one-time link (no password). Photos you upload, and any temporary location you post for a food truck or pop-up, are shown publicly in the app.
We may combine search activity into aggregated, de-identified statistics, for example "late-night demand for food near Franklin Street is up this month." We may share these with restaurants and other businesses. Aggregated insights never include install IDs, individual searches, or any one person's location history.
These companies process data on our behalf to run MunchMap:
Restaurant information comes from public county health-inspection records, Yelp, Foursquare, and OpenStreetMap. We don't send your data to those sources.
Search and report logs are kept as long as they're useful for running and improving the service, then deleted or reduced to aggregate counts. Firebase Analytics data is kept according to our Firebase retention setting (14 months or less). Owner accounts are kept while active. You can ask us to delete your owner account at any time.
MunchMap is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also give notice in the app.
